Uruguay

Uruguayan Steppenwolf. Step 2.

By on 6 December 2016

From Chuy many things were changed. For worst (prizes were even higher than inside country) and better because people took me a little bit faster. Maybe because I was in more touristic region or maybe because I had lucky. Most important was that I swam on south In much faster river. First meeting with ocean and became a little bit warmer when I remembered Brazilian beaches. Even that 2 thousands kilometers above the same ocean destroyed my computer that was really nice to see him once again. At evening I’m looking for a place for my home. Clean and fresh I’m leaving toilets on patrol station when… I felt under ground! Literally mud wanted to ate me! Probably I will never be fully clean..

Muddy monster

Form road took me young guy who is working in department of local number game. We are talking about that how difficult is to win money on that kind of things when suddenly something was changed with road. “Yes, we are on airstrip. But don’t worry, they are using it only in emergency situations”. We are laughing but in one eye looking outside windows to check if there is no shadow of landing plane.

I’m really close to my another point, Cabo Polonio, when mother with daughter took me. “We are not going directly to Cabo, but maybe you want to go to our village. From there you can walk on beach”. 12km on beach? Let’s do it! I received also shaver there and I poisoned my water when I mixed water from shop which I bought with theirs water. “We are drinking it and never nothing were wrong”. Yeah… Maybe for you.

I’m starting my walk to Cabo. I’m passing by “negotiator” how he named themselves, who wanted to sell drugs in amount of wholesale, and I’m finding first problem. Small river. Maybe 20m wide but 2 meters deep, as saying guy onshore. “Do you have boat here?” I’m asking. “Yes, 30 pesos on other side”. That’s business! You are laying whole day and just waiting for people which you will transport in a second on the other side. There were no other option so with Charon I went in 60 second cruise on the other side, maybe not to Hades but to pharaoh country. On other side – miracle. Dunes so huge that was really difficult to climb on them. And from top view like on Sahara. To horizon only sand! I made there not 12 but 20 km because I wanted to go here, there, to see view from that and other place. I was like a wolf on hunting territory. But finally I came to Cabo.

20 meters wide Styx and clever Charon. That was so quick travel that I made only one pic 😀

Cabo Polonio is a small, over 100 year old fishing village. But now there are only two fishers family, and rest of people earn cash on tourist business. And what is bringing people there? That, it is real end of world! You can’t go there by your own car. First because it’s a national park, but second that from main road there is 10km only of sand (and marvelous views). To go there you can or walk as me (if you are crazy as me) or use busses with are looking like from African Safari. On place there is no electricity. Everybody are sitting with candles and fires. You can see a little bit more only when lighthouse which is tower above whole place will cut dark by light. But sky is swell up from stars and plankton is lighting like no other place. You can find there around one hundred colorful and strange houses which are lying in no logic way. There is around 10 – 20 meters between them so they are looks like shell or stones on harbor. From one place to another you can use small trails but before you will know where they are you will go through dunes. There is one shop fulfilled by cosmic prizes and few nice hostels fulfilled by people from around the world. I met there guy from Switzerland who is going by bike to Tierra del Fuego, girl from Norway who is travelling alone around South America and second guy form US who is studying dance in Buenos Aires. Everybody are sitting in front of hostels or in few kilometers beaches. It’s a place where truly time is stopping. Maybe here is nothing to do (you can watch all day sea lions if you like which are lying on rocks around lighthouse) and you can see whole place in 20minutes, but people don’t except nothing more. You’re lying whole day in hammock, some guy is coming and offering homy bread and cookies with hash, at evening you are going on beach to buy fresh fish and cook it on fire, and on night you are buying bottle of wine and going to sit around one from fires to listen how people from around world are playing on instruments and talking theirs stories. Micro village where no news are passing, you can do what you want, peace and love, and everything drowned in fumes of marihuana. Probably best place on Uruguay map!

I swam further. A lot of cars stopped so I came very quickly to road on which I could go to top of higher place in Uruguay. And another time my horror were started. Sun is burning me, stones are going inside my shoes, and I’m walking around 20km because nobody wanted to stop. But finally I reached road to top. Literally because road is laying around 100m from summit. But when you don’t have car you need to walk around 1,5 hour to reach Cerro cathedral (for me it’s a not name for that hill because have only 513m 😀 ). And what is classic for that place, summit is fenced! I don’t know that is there any entrance, I didn’t saw any so I jumped over fence and after 10minutes of searching I found highest point of that microcountry. Check!

I’m swimming further. In Minas I see from street inside some bar… tits! Only on posters 🙁 Is raining so I went inside, bought beer and listened stories about objects which are inside. And there is like in museum! You can find there never opened bottle of drink from 1930, over 100year old stones balls which were like a weapon for Indians, and also very old safe. Strange place 🙂 in cathedral where plugins are in perfect place near confessionals I charged my electric things and meet Bishop (real cool guy! Polish preachers should learn from them how to be good preachers not a businemessmans 🙂 ). He told me that in minas are two polish preachers. And that’s how I found place for night 🙂 Jarek is a really cool guy who is here 3 years. We are talking many hours and he told me many things about living here in that small, like communist country.

I asked that he don’t want to open that bottle and try how it taste. “Well, you know. originaly that drink is black so now it can taste like s***! But always I can sell it 🙂 “
